The incident claimed lives of five brave police officers in Mandera County.

In a statement released on Monday, the county bosses urged the national government to consider their proposal to involve them in security matters.

'We do not need to lose more lives of either our civilians or security officers when modalities are there to improve the ailing sector," said Peter Munya.

He further called on the Interior Ministry to invest in gathering intelligence reports in the volatile counties of Garissa and Mandera so as to avert the attacks that have been occasionally reported in the North Eastern region.

"The very evil arm of terrorism has once again hit our peace loving country and robbed us of our patriotic officers doing their duty of protecting fellow countrymen and women. It is high time the interior ministry considers heightening Intelligence gathering in the volatile counties of Garissa, Mandera and areas along the Somalia border to avert future attacks,” he added.

The five armed police officers were killed by suspected Al-Shabaab militants as they escorted a Garissa bound bus.
