Nyamira County governor's wife Naomi Nyagarama has denied engaging in early campaigns and using public resources to secure a re-election for Governor John Nyagarama.
Mrs Nyagarama was blasted by a section of county residents who wanted her to explain the source of the resources she has been using to traverse the county.
In an exclusive interview on Wednesday, Mrs Nyagarama defended her actions saying the activities were part of her cooperate social responsibility to the community.
“I have heard all kinds of criticism with regard to my projects across the county. I am a mother who is concerned with maternal health care, environmental conservation and women empowerment,” she said.
She added: “I am doing all these things as part of my cooperate social responsibility. I do not bare any elective posts and my activities are purely non-political.”
Mrs Nyagarama accused her critics of blackmailing residents, adding that the public needs to be educated on the nature of her activities.
“I want to challenge residents to dismiss my critics because I do not hold a political office. I am doing this as a well-wisher who wants the county to prosper. I do not use the county government's funds and the little funding I get is from well-wishers who are determined to see my projects succeed,” she said.
Mrs Nyagarama has been spearheading tree planting activities as well as anti-FGM and anti-jigger campaigns.
