Nyamira County First Lady Naomi Nyagarama is yet again on spot over her publicized project of donating shoes to school going children across the county.

Nyagarama has been spearheading the project and according to her, it’s part of her anti-jigger campaign that aims at eradicating jiggers from among the school going pupils.

But a section of Kitutu Masaba residents led by Erick Agwata now wants County Assembly’s public accounts and investment committee to probe the first lady over what they called ‘misappropriation’ of millions of taxpayers money.

“We are really disappointed with the ongoing distribution of shoes to school going children. The idea may be good but the manner in which it’s done is basically questionable,” Agwata argued.

“We want the Public Accounts committee to chip in and investigate the amount of money being used both from the public coffers and well-wishers. We strongly feel that a lot of money is being misappropriated by the First Lady,” he added.

They also threatened to stop the exercise through a court order if the office of the first lady ignores their concerns.

“We have already written to them demanding the specifics especially about tendering which of course is opaque. She is using taxpayers’ money and she therefore has to be scrutinized. The people of Nyamira want tangible projects like water and good roads but not diverting millions of shillings to an office that isn’t recognized in the law,” Agwata added.

Efforts to get Mrs. Nyagarama for comments were futile since she could neither pick calls nor respond to text messages.
