Kisii County Governor James Ongwae’s wife Elizabeth Ongwae, in collaboration with Lions Club International and Scope International, plans to start a factory to make baby diapers and sanitary towels. Speaking in Nyanturago Primary School when she gave sanitary towels to girls from 20 different schools, in partnership with the Kenya Commercial Bank, Mrs Ongwae said that the factory will help girls from poor homes that are in schools. “My office is putting up a factory in our county to help all the girls from Kisii County get access to these sanitary towels and our children get napkins easily. We do not want to see cases where our girls miss attending schools because they cannot afford these towels,” she said. Elizabeth said that it is painful to see a girl miss school for five days every month adding that they lose a lot during that time. She also stated that Governor James Ongwae has vowed to offer his government’s support by finding land where the factory shall be put up. “Our governor has also promised to get us a place where we shall build the factory to help the girls of Kisii County,” she added.
