The Kenyan government has introduced bold plans to fix the broken housing market and build more homes across Nairobi.
The informal settlements are said to provide decent housing for low income earners.
These 30,000 houses will be build on government-owned land in Shauri Moyo, Makongeni, Starehe and Park Road estates.
Construction for the units in Park Road will commence in three month while Shauri Moyo, Makongeni and Starehe will kickoff within six months.
In an interview with the press on Sunday at State House in Nairobi, State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said:
"We’ve already spoken to setting up of the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company within the next month. But what will define a changing Nairobi will be the breaking of ground for three flagship projects as part of the President’s Big Four agenda,”.
Esipisu later added that he had talked with the officials of the construction and the units would be started in the next six months.
The government is committed to building more affordable homes to boost house-building and support households who are locked out of the market.
This investment will help families to find a decent home that is right for them and also cheap.
