The government has been asked to consider deploying more female security officers across the country during the Tuesday's general elections.
This is in what African Woman and Child Feature Service Programs officer Faith Muiruri says will help ensure women are protected from harassments they might encounter on the elections day.
Speaking during a media workshop on Security, Peace and Women in Eldoret on Sunday, Ms. Muturi lamented that in the past women voters and candidates have been harassed for lack of women police officers to protect them.
"We need police officers who know the challenges women face as they are best placed to provide the needed assistance and women security officers are the only ones who can provide that," Muturi said.
"In an event of a protest of fracas during voting, only women police can handle women in the right way," she added.
Muturi further called for a close cooperation between the public and police to ensure incidences of sexual harassments among others are reported for appropriate legal actions.
