The government has declared Tuesday August 8, a public holiday.

Through the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of the national government, Acting Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i said, this will pave way for Kenyans, to exercise their democratic right, of voting in the general election, salted for the same day.

"It is notified for general information of the public, that the Acting Cabinet Secretary for the Interior and Coordination of the national government, in exercise of powers conferred to him by Section 2 (4) of the Public Holidays Act, declares Tuesday 8th 2017, to be a public holiday to accord Kenyans the opportunity to participate in the 2017 general election," Matiang'i said, in a gazette notice, No. 7405, published August 1, 2017.

Kenyans will have an election on Tuesday next week (August 8), after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, led by Wafula Chebukati, assured that the agency was ready.
