Deputy President William Ruto visited the scene of the accident, where approximately 40 Kenyans lost their lives, with scores injured, in a fuel tanker tragedy.
Ruto expressed condolences to victims and families of the Saturday night accident at Karai along Naivasha-Nakuru highway, and further affirmed that government will offer assistance to the affected families.
"Heartfelt condolences to the families that have lost loved ones following the tragic accident at Karai, Naivasha. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace,'' Ruto said.
Accompanied by Mining Cabinet Secretary Dan Kazungu, and Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Wanyama Musiambo, Ruto urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules this Christmas season to avoid accidents.
"We promise to help all the affected families as they go through this trying moment. I urge motorists to be cautious and adhere to traffic rules to avoid unnecessary deaths, pain and suffering,'' said the DP.
He further asked Musyambo to initiate arrangements to ensure affected families and victims are supported.
Musyambo further called on affected families to visit Naivasha mortuary to help identify victims who died in the accident.
The accident was caused by a Ugandan canter, carrying flammable substance. It hit a bump and rammed into 13 vehicles, resulting to fire.
