Senator Johnstone Muthama has criticised government over what he termed its laxity in fighting graft in the country.
Addressing mourners at a funeral service in Mwala on Tuesday, Muthama said recent sacking of five Cibinet Secretaries was an indicator that there was "massive graft" in government.
President Uhuru Kenyatta during his Cabinet reshuffle sacked Charity Ngilu (Lands), Kazungu Kambi (Labour), Felix Koskei (Agriculture), David Chirchir (Energy) and Michael Kamau (Transport) over corruption allegations.
"It is worth noting that corruption under the Jubilee government has hit high levels not seen before and the buck lies squarely with the top leadership," he said.
Muthama said graft had eaten the nation and that unless efforts are directed towards fighting it, national development would be crippled.
He said all government officials implicated in corruption should be investigated and if found guilty be charged before courts of law.
