A 78-year-old woman is nursing injuries on her left ear after being allegedly attacked by her granddaughter at Ondiri area of Kikuyu sub-county.
Virginia Wanjiru was allegedly attacked by her 29-year-old granddaughter. The granny stays with the young lady after the mother was admitted in Mathari hospital with a mental disorder.
Confirming the incident, Kikuyu police boss Joshua Arende said that the suspect, who was born with Down syndrome, also suffers from epilepsy which makes her aggressive when angry. She has been violent previously and she reported to have beat a boy after he refused to share some food.
Arende said that no legal action was taken against her as she was considered as a mentally challenged person.
Wanjiru said her granddaughter was angered by being ordered to finish her food before being allowed to go outside.
Wanjiru said, “I took a cane and threatened to discipline her if she did not finish her food. She became very agitated and pounced on me, biting off my left ear.”
Wanjiru was treated at the PCEA Kikuyu hospital where she was taken after the incident.
