A 71-year-old grand mother who was raped by an unknown man in Taita Taveta on Saturday has died at a Mombasa hospital where she had been admitted for treatment.
The woman died early Sunday morning while receiving treatment as police continue to pursue the man who committed the heinous act on Saturday early morning.
Taita Taveta County police boss Fred Ochieng appealed to members of the public to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of the rapist who is said to have repeatedly raped the elderly woman leaning her unconscious.
Ochieng said the information will he treated with the highest level of confidentiality promising not to divulge the identity of the person who will volunteer the information.
The woman was found unconscious in her house where she was taken to Wesu sub county hospital before being transferred to the Coast Provincial General Hospital for specialized treatment before she succumbed to the injuries she sustained during the involuntary sexual act.
The woman was admitted in hospital while in a coma.
Police said the area where the rape case happened is notorious for the incidents.
Ochieng said law enforcers will do everything at their disposal to bring to book the culprit.
