A 75-year-old homeless widow from Rarieda Sub County now has a reason to smile after a local leader built her a new home.
Mama Peres Gondi who hails from Oboch village in East Asembo Ward has been living in a temporary structure for more than 10 years.
The widow has been living in a deplorable condition inside a structure made out of thorns after her husband passed on.
This has now come to an end after the area Member of County Assembly William Owiti built her a new house after the woman’s pleas.
Gondi, who is a second wife in a polygamous family, said she had been living in an extreme poverty after the death of her husband and her only two sons who could have taken care of her.
She decried that despite the presence of her step-sons and co-wife who have better houses, she was still neglected and nobody bothered to save her from that pathetic situation.
The widow narrated that she had lost hope in life since she was exposed to dangers like possible attacks by wild animals and diseases caused by bad conditions of her temporary thorny house.
Owiti said he took quick intervention after receiving the information that Gondi did not own a house.
He appealed to community members to embrace the spirit of supporting and taking care of the vulnerable widows and elderly people to ensure that they are safe.
“Now that we are in a festive season, I urge everyone who are able to help the poor people in the society so that we can all celebrate together,” said the MCA.
