A 27-year-old man who has been in police detention for assaulting his 70-year-old grandmother has been released unconditionally on a police bond.
This is after his grandmother withdrew the charges.
Philip Wanjohi was arrested three days ago by Teachers police officers after he was accused by residents of assaulting his aging grandmother over a land dispute in Kiamaina village in Bahati.
According to the police officer in-charge at the police, post Mercy Musyoka, the grandmother of the accused Phillis Nduta was assaulted by her grandson after he accused her of refusing to hand over a land title deed to facilitate a bank loan.
The police said that the assailant had come home under the influence of alcohol, hit his grandmother with a crude weapon. The elderly woman allegedly sustained serious injuries to her head and arm. This is before the grandson was arrested neighbours who handed him to police.
“He has been under the care of his grandmother since he was orphaned some ten years ago, but it seems he wants to sell the land. His grandmother and other relatives have been strict with him,” said the police officer.
Musyoka clarified that the granny pledged to withdraw the charges to prevent further family disputes. She however asked police to warn her grandson not to use force to demand for family property but dialogue.
