The students said it is unfair to close the university yet some of them traveled from far only to be given a short notice that the exams and teaching has been cancelled.

“Many of us come from far flung areas like Mandera and Wajir, we have been in Garissa town for three weeks preparing for exams only to be given a notice of closure without proper communication yet our colleagues in other campuses have begun their exams,” said Mahat Muhumed a student.

He added that the University`s allegations that they have not paid their fees in an excuse to deny them a chance to seat for the exams since 80 per cent of them have cleared their exams.

“Our lawyer C P Unono has already communicated with the institution informing it that they will take legal action if no amicable solution is found,” he said.

The institution in a letter dated November 15, 2016 informed the students of the cancellation of teaching and examinations in Garissa.

The university said it is not possible to have teaching and examinations done in November and December due to huge fee balances from the previous semester, the tutorial classes were set to begin on the 16th November.

The University through the University Director Ogwayo Isaac Onyango said the tutorials that were scheduled for 16th November have been transferred to Nairobi campus Wetlands, Centro House 4th and 5th floors.
