Great Lakes University in Kisumu has been sued for failing to pay WIlsco Engineering Company for a a tender awarded on completion of construction works since January 2012.
Mr Dalmas Isaba, WIlsco Engineering Company CEO on Monday told the Kisumu court that the university had competitively awarded the tender and the works had been completed to the institution’s satisfaction.
Isaba said the company was issued with a certificate of completion by the university on May 16, 2014, but had not made full payments for the work.
The university has been accused of refusing to remit Sh2,070,310 despite having been served with many letters demanding for payment.
“We competitively worn the contract, completed the work and they gave us a completion certificate, but have refused to pay despite having served them with several letters,” said Isaba.
The contractor said during the construction, materials worth Sh514,490 were supplied and only Sh90,000 had been paid by the university by cheque through their lawyer on September 10, 2014.
The contractor is seeking the intervention of the court to compel the institution that was absent in court to pay the outstanding Sh2,070,310 with interest since January 5, 2015 and court charges.
