The first half ended with a 0-0 scoreline. Green Commandoes was the first to score through Henry Atola in early second half before substitute Collins Kombo scored via a free kick five minutes to the end of the match.

Green Commandoes head coach Brenden Mwinamo expressed optimism that the schoolboys are up to the task.

“We conceded a very easy goal very late in the match, but that is the nature of football. We will go back and try to correct our mistakes,” he said.

His Coast Stima counterpart Kinero Swaleh said that NSL is quite physical, as compared to the Division One League. “Our opponents were quite physical, and we are also set to travel a lot as opposed to last season. But my boys are ready to compete at this level,” he said.

Green Commandoes and Coast Stima were both promoted to the NSL at the end of last year, after performing well in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) division one league.

Coast Stima will next face Kisumu AllStars in Mombasa on Saturday, while Green Commandoes will play against Nairobi Stima at the Karuturi Grounds in Naivasha on the same day.
