Kakamega High School football team famously known as Green Commandos will be among the over fifteen teams that will take part in the National Super League (NSL) starting next year.

The team booked the NSL slot by virtue of being leaders of the Division One, Zone B league as the 2017 season draws to a close. NSL is the second tier league in Kenya, after the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

According to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) website, Green Commandoes lead the Division One, Zone B with 52 points, four points ahead of second-placed Timsales FC with one match to go before end of this season.

“The journey has been very tough, we were to go into the NSL last year, but we lost our opportunity after finishing third. Our secret card has been focus, intense training and discipline,” Green Commandoes coach Brendan Mwinamo is quoted by Citizen Digital.

“It has not been easy to balance education with the expectations of the league. We will face the same challenge next season but we will strive to succeed. Despite this, we have made it into the NSL, though our primary target is to play in the Premier League,” said the coach.

Kakamega High School soccer team is known across the country for dominance in the National Secondary School games.

According to kenyapage.net, Green commandoes have won 12 national secondary school games boys’ football titles, between 1971 and 2017.

That means it is the most successful team in Kenya’s Secondary Schools games history.
