The county government of Machakos together with Usaid on Thursday organised an education forum for cash crop farmers in Machakos county.

Speaking in Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town, the agriculture minister  Nimrod Mbai stated his ministry had done research on cultivation and irrigation methods and markets appropriate for high harvest results. 

"We have been pushing for more market in India and have signed a memorandum of understanding but what we had not cleared up with our farmers is the different types of green grains highly in demand to the Indian Market," said Mbai.

Mbai explained to farmers the best grains that the big market that the MOU and prices had been agreed upon.

"We have agreed on the prices that the Indians will purchase the harvests and the last information was confirmed which is the types of green grams," he added.

 According to the information provided by the Usaid, the green grams grains on demand is nylons type rather than the angle type which is common with many farmers in Machakos county. 

"What we have made clear today is that nylon green grams are what is in demand in India rather than the angle type. We will provide the latter as government for farmers to collect and plant," he added.
