Requiem mass of the late baby Samantha Pendo at @citizentvkenya
A requiem mass of baby Samantha Pendo is currently being held.
Family, and friends of parents of the late six-months-old, convened at St Joseph Catholic Church in Kisumu, Friday afternoon, to console and pray for the body of the baby, ahead of her burial.
Pendo's mother, Lancer Achieng 29, married Joseph Abanja 30, in 2012, but their attempts to have children were frustrated twice, when Achieng experienced miscarriages.
Six months ago (on February 8), Achieng gave birth to the Pendo, who later died at the Aga Khan Hospital, after she was allegedly clobbered by a police officer, during the post-election unrest.
“He panicked on realising the baby was hurt. I remember he asked whether I could carry out First Aid on the child,” he said, adding that due to pressure from his colleagues, the officer left the house, in Nyalenda.
Government Consultant Pathologist, Dr Dickson Mchana, who conducted a post-mortem on Pendo's remains, two days later. He revealed that she had suffered a cracked scalp and had deep injuries, and so she died due to internal bleeding.
Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o has since vowed to sue the national government and the National Police Service over the incident.
Several Kenyans on Twitter sent fare well messages to the baby, as indicated below,, ahead of her burial, August 26, 2017.
