A former councillor and his wife were laid to rest on Saturday in an emotional send off in Ebulakho Elukhobe village, Kisumu county.

Stephen Otiato, 51, and his wife Roseline Akinyi, 48,  were electrocuted on October 3 at their home in Maseno.

The two were rushed to Maseno Mission hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Witnesses said Akinyi was the first to be electrocuted while hanging clothes on a line.

Her husband was electrocuted when he tried to rescue her at 7am.

The couple's 19-year old daughter, Janet Otiato, said a naked wire connected to a security lamp was found to have fallen on the clothesline.

Stephen served as a Councillor for Kisumu North ward between 2007 and 2013.

He also unsuccessfully contested as a Member of County Assembly in the August poll on a Ford Kenya ticket.

The couple's son, Charles Nyawira, eulogised the deceased as parents who loved their children equally and did their best to give them the best education.

Friends and other mourners also described the late Stephen as a humble leader and that the two were generous and hospitable.

Local leaders who attended the funeral were Kisumu county Women Representative Rosa Buyu Dwasi and the area MCA Vincent Jagongo, known to his supporters as Chopper.
