A Civil society group in Kisumu is demanding to be told how Members of County Assembly have been doing business with the County Assembly and the executive.
The Executive Director for Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative George Owuor says such a move will derail the oversight role of the MCAs.
Owuor gave the assembly leadership one week to give out the names of the MCAs who are doing business with the county.
He said the actions of the assembly members go against the County Government Act 2012.
This comes after a report released by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) taskforce revealing damning levels of corruption and misuse of public resources by the Kisumu County assembly.
The report found among other issues that the speaker and MCAs were openly flouting procurement laws and awarding themselves or their cronies’ tenders.
Owuor said the MCAs should stick to their roles of making laws for the county government, exercise oversight over county executive organs, debate and approve budget for the county and represent their electorate.
