A civil society organisation in Kisumu has initiated a program to provide a dialogue platform for county leaders and the locals on matters of development.

Executive Director of Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative (TEAM) Mr George Collins Owuor said the program will be carried out in four counties in Western Kenya region.

Owuor said TEAM has partnered with a German foundation known as Friedrich Ebert Stiftung to carry out the program in Kisumu, Siaya, Vihiga and Bungoma counties from next month.

“TEAM secured some funding from Friedrich Ebert Stiftung to carry out this awareness creation among the people and from next month, that is November, we will roll out the programme,” he said.

He said such dialogue platforms will give the locals a direct opportunity to put to task leaders they elected in office in terms of service provision.

Briefing the press in Kisumu on Saturday on some of the work TEAM is doing across the region, Owuor said most people at the grassroots level still do not know how the county governments operate.

“Our county governments have failed to organise meetings with the locals to educate them fully on the role of the county government. Our people still do not know what some of the services that were devolved are and what should they expect from the national government,” he said.

He announced that his team will move around in all the 35 wards in Kisumu County to engage the locals alongside those leaders at the county.
