Kenya Diaspora Alliance chairperson Shem Ochuodho has accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of ignoring most of the Kenyans living abroad in the voter listing process.

Speaking during NTV's AMLive show on Monday, Ochuodho said he will be moving to court to sue the commission.

He added that he was shocked at the IEBC's decision to register only voters in Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and South Africa, adding that he has also sought the opinion of political leaders on the same.

"Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and South Africa are the only countries that the IEBC is registering and we will sue them for contempt," he said.

"This is very unfair to the diaspora and we have already notified the leaders across the political divide that we are waiting on their stance on this. None of them who has gone abroad has come back to say what the Kenyans in the diaspora are saying on the ground," he added.

The former Rangwe MP insisted that the people in the diaspora were an important part of the Kenyan economy that are not supposed to be ignored, terming them as the 48th county in the country.

"The diaspora is the 48th important county that cannot be disenfranchised in the August 8 elections," he said.
