A women group in Nakuru has embarked on a multimillion real estate project that aims at promoting housing challenges in their area of operation, especially for their members and single mothers. Mawanga Progressive Women Group (MPWG) secretary Agnes Waithaka said at one of the group’s project site during an inspection tour on Thursday that the group had invested Sh7 million in the housing project that started early last year. She said the aim of the project was to provide subsidised costs in rental and commercial units in Mawanga, Makao and Keratina residential areas where the group owns plots. We have been very keen on this project because we want to solve a problem of housing among our members and disadvantaged women. These houses and commercial rooms will be let out at subsidised rates because we want to provide incentives to our members and attract more membership from other women,’’ said Waithaka. The houses include 10-one bed-roomed rental houses and at least five shops in Mawanga, Makao and Keratina business centres respectively that are expected to earn the group over Sh180,000 per month. The group comprises of over 20 widowed and single women that started a welfare and group savings and investment activities in 2008 after the post-poll violence that rocked parts of the country.
