Speaking to the press on Saturday, the association’s spokesman, John Njagi, accused the community policing team of acting out of sheer suspicion and not evidence.

He said that the crackdown which was conducted on Friday cost them a fortune whereby their customers failed to turn up for the weekend.

He noted that the community policing team is suppressing their businesses as they have been doing genuine business but the team is still on their heels and they do not check upon other bars to ascertain the authenticity of the drinks they are selling to the customers.

“You can ask them what they got from the bars which are located in this area. Their work is just to spoil our business and they are not even licensed to be carrying out the crackdown. We will proceed to court to seek an injunction on the matter and also bar them from conducting similar crackdowns in the area,” Njagi said.

He further said that the brews which were destroyed were not got from Makongeni area but rather Kiandutu, as they became victims of circumstances due to the crackdown having been carried out on the same day.

The community policing team conducted a crackdown to trace and destroy illicit brews in the area whereby they managed to destroy more than 1500 litres of chang’aa and threatened to revoke licenses of bar owners.
