A Nakuru environment group has appealed to Kenya Forest Service to install litter bins at the Crater Site
Street Nakuru CBO chairman James Wakibia lamented that a lot of littering took place once they went there for picnics and camping.
Wakibia added that there are no proper disposal sites in the area which lead to poor garbage disposal.
“On any given day, at least 200 people hike the crater and they carry packed lunch. How the Ministry of Environment and the KFS have never thought of proper ways to deal with the garbage is annoying,” he added.
He was speaking to the press in his office in Nakuru on Monday where he called on the ministry officials to ensure the area gets at least 30 litter bins before the end of January.
“Kenyans are willing to be responsible in garbage disposal but the authorities involved are not cooperating with them,” he added.
Wakibia pointed out that the crater was littered with plastic bags and bottles.
“They should at least employ someone to collect the garbage and also ensure at least companies which recycle garbage can get access to the place without paying the access fee,” he added.
