New reports indicate that three dangerous goons could be behind the series of attacks that have been previously witnessed in The University of Nairobi.
A report aired on TV on Monday disclosed that three deadly groups; Panga Kazi, Wise Men, and Executive, are operating the university.
According to sources at the university, the gangs normally extort money from shop owners as well as restaurants, and worse still, they are available for hire during the often chaotic Students Organization of Nairobi University (Sonu) elections.
The three gangs are accused of propagating incidents of violence and intimidations, as well as peddling drugs such as bhang, cocaine and heroin.
Salim aka Wiseman, a student who is reported to be the leader of Lethal Wise Men reportedly joined The University of Nairobi in 2005 to study Economics and ten years later, he is still a student at UoN residing in the dreaded Hall 9.
A recent police raid on Hall 9 recovered crude weapons among them machetes, bloody knives, and police uniform. In Salim’s room S05 in Hall 9, it is reported that police seized marijuana, machetes, and handcuffs suspected to have been stolen from a police officer. Nairobi Police boss, Japheth Koome assured that students in whose room’s weapons were found would be apprehended.
Police indicate that teams of undercover detectives have been deployed at all UoN campuses to smoke out criminals.
Meanwhile, The University of Nairobi reopened on Tuesday, after it was closed indefinitely on April 5, following the rampant demonstrations by students over what they termed as compromised elections.
