Farmers in Molo sub-county have been encouraged to grow napier grass in plenty as a way of ensuring that they have regular fodder for their livestock.

Speaking in his office on Thursday, Nakuru sub-county livestock officer Eustus Mureithi said that napier grass contains complete nutrients and is easy to grow.

"Napier grass remains the most reliable fodder for farmers who want to carry out dairy farming. I would urge all farmers who have idle land to instead use it to grow napier grass to ensure it is in regular supply,” said Mureithi.

Mureithi at the same time cautioned farmers against leaving the napier grass to overgrow saying it would not be good for the livestock.

"Napier grass is suitable when it has grown to size. At this time it is high in nutrients and forage required by milk producing livestock,” he said.
