A General Service Unit (GSU) officer was on Tuesday arraigned before a Mombasa Court to answer to charges of manslaughter.
Mr Tenai Kiplagat, was charged with manslaughter following the death of his colleague Joseph Wafula.
Mr Kiplagat and a fellow GSU officer Mr Anthony Situma are accused of allegedly causing the death of Mr Wafula.
The two accused persons are said to have committed the crime on July 19 at the Mombasa GSU service camp.
Mr Situma who is facing charges of recklessness and negligence is accused of leaving the vehicle that led to the death of his colleague unattended.
The prosecution told the court that Mr Situma left the vehicle's engine running and went to a canteen.
It was then that Mr Kiplagat, who is said to be an inexperienced driver, reversed the vehicle which ran over Mr Wafula and other officers who sustained injuries.
The prosecution argued that it was Mr Situma's negligence which resulted in the death of officer Wafula.
The two accused persons however denied the charges before the court and filed an application to be released on bail pending the next case hearing.
Mombasa Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogot granted their application and released the Mr Kiplagat on a bond of Sh800,000 or a cash bail of Sh500,000.
Mr Situma was released on a Sh200,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh100,000.
The case will be mentioned on July 4.
