The ongoing party primaries ought to be conducted in a civilised and organised manner to produce good candidates.

Unfortunately, both major political outfits – Jubilee and NASA– have been marred by corruption and intimidation of aspirants through the hiring of goons to threaten and bully each other.

Most primaries in major counties have been cancelled and annulled due to allegations of votes rigging, violence, threats and supremacy battles. It is unfortunate that the youth are being recruited to facilitate this uncouth behaviour.

Already, use of hired goons and hooliganism by aspirants has been outlawed.

Nevertheless, it is ultimately impossible to rid of the vice since the majority of youth who are unemployed, earnestly accept to be used and in return receive handouts and gifts from the perpetrators.

The question that lingers on is how long does ‘a gift’ last as a payout to violence and malicious destruction? As much as we emphasise the need for aspirants to hire security guards as compared to goons for their security, the youth ought to understand that it is their homes, villages and community they are destroying.

In the long haul, they suffer the most to those they are inflicting fear and terror into.
