Former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo has maintained that the outcome of the Siaya governorship race does not reflect the will of the people.

The lawmaker has now asked the High Court to order a scrutiny of materials used in the governorship during the August general election.

The legislator, who lost to Cornel Rasanga, argued that Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) did not adhere to the constitution while conducting the exercise that saw him suffer a humiliating defeat.

In a sworn affidavit at the High Court in Siaya, Gumbo told Justice Esther Maina to nullify the outcome of the governorship race on the grounds that there were election malpractices and illegalities.

He also told the court that his agents were not allowed to verify the different forms used during the exercise, which is likely to have compromised with the outcome of the exercise.

“My agents were not given an equal chance to verify the forms; as a result, the irregular and unlawful counting of votes deprived me of my victory,” he stated.

On his part, Rasanga has maintained that he won in a free and fair manner.
