Gunmen in Nairobi's Kayole area, shot an killed a senior Administration Police (AP) officer, Wednesday morning.

Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome confirmed the deceased was a Superintendent of police.

He was a doctor who was attached to the AP headquarters in Nairobi, and was killed in Mihang'o, near his home.

Koome indicated that the thugs used a hired vehicle that was found at the scene of the incident, at around 3am.

"The hired vehicle is a white saloon car with registration number KBA 309 E. It was abandoned in front of the officer's vehicle after they shot him on the chest,'' said Koome.

Police collected three spent cartridges, as investigations into the incident continue.
