Trouble then started at this point. [Photo/General Principal Radio]Illicit liquor seized in Kisumu made two police units almost exchange fire at each other in public on Friday. The Administration Police is said to have impounded 1,200 litres of the illicit liquor being ferried in a Probox car, allegedly being escorted by officers from the Flying Squad. The liquor in 100 boxes in sachets of Coffee Spirit, Simba Waragi and Kitoko liquor is said to have been imported from the neighbouring Uganda to Kisumu for sale. The consignment was impounded when officers at the Kisumu Port flagged the Probox down but the driver declined to stop, forcing them to chase it.The driver lost control, rammed on a guardrail and escaped on foot. Trouble then started at this point. The two police units clashed when the APs that were chasing the vehicle tried to tow it but the Flying Squad group opposed, forcing some of them to cock guns according to eyewitnesses.According to Kisumu County police commander John Kamau, the brew was worth Sh360,000. “The AP tried to secure the vehicle but the Flying Squad guys that were in another car, refused and guns were cocked as both sides held their ground," a witness told Citizen Digital."It was then that AP called for reinforcement that the situation eased."Reports later said Kamau held a closed door meeting with the AP and Flying Squad officials for over an hour at the central police station where the consignment had been taken alongside the vehicle.Regional AP Commander Joseph Keitany did not comment on the matter.
