Speaking to women vendors at a local open air market, Garissa Woman Representative Shukran Gure noted that the region has no elected woman MP or MCA or even a representative in any other elective position other than their reserved women rep seat.

The female politician lamented that despite women and youths forming the compact majority, their voices are yet to be heard.

Ms Gure encouraged the women and youths that their time had dawned and rising above retrogressive cultural views that have left marginalized for decades now.

"Times have greatly changed and more women in this region have right personalities and convictions just like other women from rest of the country. We have quality leadership skills like our male counterparts across the region," she said.

However,  Gure was quick to point out that women remain their worst enemies when it comes to voting their own. She urged them to change the trend come next general elections and vote for one of their own.
