Kisii County Deputy County Commissioner Mr Philip Soi said the college was closed for fear of extended riots.

He, however, warned students against causing fracas when their colleagues will be buried on Friday adding those who attempt causing chaos would be dealt with.

“We were forced to close the college after making wide consultation with security stakeholders in the county. Students will remain at their homes until further notice as one way of restoring peace in Kisii town,” noted Soi.

“That is the only medicine for now because they have been chaotic since Thursday last week when their colleagues were killed in an accident,” added the deputy county commissioner.

Chaos erupted on Thursday last week after a lorry transporting electricity poles from Keroka to Kisii lost control and crushed near the college gate killing a student and worker.

The students fought with the police and in the riots five students, three civilians, a police officer and two Journalists were injured.

A driver plying Kisii-Keroka highway was also shot and killed at the stage terminus as the General Service Unit (GSU) officers engaged the rioters.
