Youths told Moses Kuria on his face that Gusii Community is still a CORD Zone and stronghold. On Wednesday, Moses Kuria met a group of youths both from Nyamira and Kisii counties in Amariba secondary school-(a local school in Kisii County) in a move to convince them to join the ruling party Jubilee ahead of the next general elections.
The meeting which was organized by Mr. Richard Tongi a point man and jubilee spanner boy in the county hosted approximately five hundred youths who later after receiving handouts started chanting opposition songs.
This comes barely a day after a CORD blogger and a University of Nairobi student Generali Osumo Jnr was arrested by unknown people who claimed to be flying squad outside Delta Hotel Nairobi, a move also believed to have been instigated by the bitter exchange between the youthful leader and Moses Kuria over his plans to visit Gusii region, a reason the meeting was aborted at its final stages and postponed to this week.
The blogger was later released after the #FreOsumo went viral and with the assistance of senior council Steve Mogaka and other Gusii lawyers who stood firm and condemned that heinous act.
Despite the numerous promises which were given during the meeting, youths termed them empty and a mere jokes since the government has never shown any commitment towards improving the youths of Gusii despite promising manifesto they gave during campaigns.
“You can’t wait until the last minute and rush to Kisii for youths whereas you’ve never thought of considering youthful people into the government slots but recycling old same people”, Gwaro Dennis said. Governor Dennis, a student leader of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and technology lamented that its time the government should roll out and implement fully the agenda on youths as promised during the 2013 campaigns.
Meanwhile the Jubilee alliance is set to open their new office in Nyamira County on sixth of June 2016. This was one of the resolutions which was passed during the meeting and termed as the strategy to counter the opposition and improve popularity of Jubilee alliance within the said county.
