Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has led a section of Gusii leaders in eulogizing the sudden death of former Bomachoge Borabu MP Joel Onyancha on Wednesday night.Ongwae said that Kisii had lost a great leader who was committed to the development of the region and Gusii people."Kisii county has lost a great leader whose contribution to development of Bomachoge and Gusii in general will be greatly missed," said the governor in his condolence message.Former Kisii Senator Chris Obure said Onyancha was watching the Supreme Court judgment on TV, when he suddenly collapsed."I had spoken with him on the phone for a long time. He was jovial and told me he was following the judgment on TV at home and we could not meet as earlier planned," Obure told the Star on  phone on Thursday.County woman representative Janet Ong'era described Onyancha as an astute politician."Even though we were on opposing political sides, Onyancha played by the rules of the game. I send my deepest condolences to the family and the people of Bomachoge," she said.Onyancha was rushed to hospital by family members after he collapsed in his house and was pronounced dead on arrival at Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi. His body was moved to the Lee Funeral Home.Onyancha served as Sports and Culture assistant minister from 2005 to 2008 while serving as Bomachoge MP between 2002 and 2007 and Bomachoge Borabu MP from 2013 to 2017.Onyancha lost his seat in the August 8 polls to Zadoc Ogutu, an independent candidate and was pursuing a petition challenging the results.
