A number of Gusii leaders have sent their message of condolences to the families of victims of a tragic road accident that occurred on Friday claiming the lives of eight people.
Among the victims of the Kisii-Kilgoris accident were six university students, five from Kenyatta University and one from Dedan Kimathi who were travelling to Magena village for a party organised by a friend who had reportedly graduated from a local university.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae termed the accident ‘horrific’ and assured families of the deceased that the county government would accord them any required support.
“It’s such a horrific incident that you will never want to hear about. Losing such young people is a tragedy to our nation. My government will give the affected families all the support they need at this difficult moment,” he said.
“An incident like that is traumatising and I must say that there is a need to be with the affected families and help them where we can. I do not want to say much about it because it’s shocking," added area Senator Chris Obure on Sunday.
Nyamira Women Representative termed the accident ‘painful’ and challenged road users to be vigilant at all times to combat a repeat of the same in the near future.
“It’s painful to see such young people full of hope dying. Two of the girls come from my lineage and I want to pass my condolences to all those affected in one way of the other. It’s important that we learn from the incident and always keep vigil when using our roads,” she said.
