The death of former North Mugirango/Borabu MP Okeri Masanya seems to have shocked senior leaders from Nyamira County as messages of condolences flood social media platforms.
Masanya, who served as MP from 2002-07 on a Ford People ticket succumbed to blood pressure on Sunday night.
Nyamira Women Representative Alice Chae mourned Masanya, terming him a ‘down to earth politician’ who had the interest of the community at heart.
“I am also shocked with the death of Masanya, a down to earth politician who had the interest of the community at heart. This is a huge loss to the Omogusii and its time we emulate his peaceful coexistence approach and promote integration amongst us,” Chae said in her Whatsap post.
“This is a set back to Omogusii because he was an institutional memory in our politics. I also laud his contributions towards initiating peace along Borabu-Sotik border. He was a blessing to us and my wish is that his death unites us,” she said.
A similar message was aired by Nyamira Youth Alliance through Chairperson Nyambega Gisesa, who termed him as a self-made politician who fought for his space and that of people.
“On behalf of Nyamira Youth Alliance, I wish to send our sincere condolences to the family of Okeri Masanya. He is a politician who fought for his space and the community at large. It’s a huge lose because many youths depended on him for advises,” Nyambega said.
