Kisii County Commissioner Samuel Njora has warned political leaders from the region against using bodaboda operators and youth to cause chaos during the electioneering period.
Mr Njora who was speaking a day after ODM Kisii branch party chairman Mr Samuel Omwando led night protests against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s s two day tour of Gusii region said the government was vigilant and will guard against forms of hooliganism.
He said the government will not allow unlicensed protests organized by the political leaders.
In the Wednesday protests, a group of ODM supporters spilled into the streets at dusk and burnt some T-shirts for the Jubilee Party hours after the President held a largely peaceful and successful rally.
But Mr Omwando termed the tour as inconsequential.
But speaking on a TV show on Saturday morning, Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka slammed Mr Omwando on his conduct.
On Saturday however Mr Njora warned political leaders from the region against zoning regions for their selfish political interests.
“Let each candidate be allowed to sell his ideas without being seen to be intimidated all. They are Kenyans and must be allowed to corner of their region to canvass for votes. By doing this voters have a chance to listen and weigh them before they make a decision on who to vote for at the ballot,” said the County Commissioner. He said the president’s visit to Kisii County was largely successfully and congratulated members of the community on behaving maturely.
He especially singled out the Wednesday evening incident where the pro-ODM group harassed motorists saying they begun investigations.
“If all candidates go this way it will be chaos all over. I especially appeal to the politicians to ensure they campaign in atmosphere of peace. The act of organising protests against opponents and trying to create an impression that you are zoning an area as your voting bloc is mischievous,” he said.
