The renovation of Gusii stadium that was launched by Governor James Ongwae in 2014 is yet to be completed.
The county government had set aside Sh50 million shillings to facilitate its renovations but to date, more than three years later the project is not done.
According to the architect's plan, the county government was to erect two fences, one around the playing field and another behind terraces, to be constructed in phases.
The playing field would be watered regularly and its drainage rehabilitated to maintain national standards. The running track would also be re-done.
In addition to that, four daises including a VIP shade, each accommodating 500 fans, toilets and changing rooms were in the plan.
But currently, only the perimeter wall, washrooms, and one dais are done.
Gusii stadium is home to Shabana Football Club who use it for training and leagues games. It accommodates 5000 fans when full to capacity.
Shabana's Chairman Jared Ombongi, blamed lack of funds for delayed completion for the stadium.
"Governor Ongwae promised that the stadium will be complete in 6months but this has remained a dream. Lack of funds and corruption is the main reason for this," said Mr Ombongi.
Shabana FC players want the county government to speed up the renovations of their home ground to promote and improve sports.
Efforts to speak to the minister for sports in Kisii county bore no fruits.
