Speaking to HiviSasa.com on phone, Kisii School principal Casper Maina on Monday said school heads had agreed with stakeholders to subject learners to such exams in a bid to strengthen performances in national exams that have reportedly deteriorated in recent years.

He said the exam, by the name Kisii County Smart Text, will be examined by experienced teachers so that it matches national standards to bring out the broader picture of competitiveness.

“This county is capable of topping in national exams because we have diligent students and teachers who have been tested. The examiners will be people who have knowledge in exam setting as a way of making it even competitive,” Maina said.

“We have spoken to education stakeholders and have supported the idea. It is a fantastic thing to do because for a long time, we have stayed in darkness giving us little opportunity to evaluate ourselves in terms of performance,” he added.

The plan may, however, face obstacles before being implemented since it has to be approved by Ministry of Education, which is on record for banning previous exams which were famously called 'mock exams' although Maina does not seem to be worried.

“We will not be intimidated by anyone because we are still within limits. We have not infringed anybody’s right and this is our own initiative,” he said.
