The appellate judge beat several other contestants to be nominated the first person from Kisii land to head the third organ of government.

And a section of Nyamira County Whatsapp group users ridiculed the team for allegedly claiming credit over Maraga’s nomination.

“Justice Maraga was purely nominated based on his merit and not political influence. These old men trying to hoodwink Gusii community that their State House visit was the reason behind is totally misleading,” said Jason Mong’are.

“We don’t want people to politicise nomination of Mr Maraga. He competed and emerged the best and that ought to be respected. Politics should not be mixed with merit,” added Jane Kerongo.

However, Kisii Deputy Governor who reportedly claimed credit over Maraga’s nomination on Friday insisted being ‘misquoted’ by his critics.

“I don’t mean that we were behind the nomination of Maraga but I simply meant that the Gusii community has shown unity which can influence appointments and nominations because we speak as a team,” he said.

“No one has politicised the nomination but I feel that the unity which we have been pushing is the reason behind these blessings,” he added.
