The Gusii Water and Sanitation Company is set to be restructured.
The restructuring is to enable the company provide services to both urban and rural towns in Kisii County.
Kisii county governor James Ongwae has disclosed that a German Bank (KFW) will invest Sh1.2 billion to rehabilitate and expand the water supply system in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
He said Kisii town continues to face challenges in water supply due to an ageing supply system installed in 1932.
“The intake is falling occasioning leaks that ultimately affect the quantity and quality of water available to residents,” said Ongwae.
He also said the African development bank has invested 400 million to rehabilitate the water supply system in Keroka town to increase the capacity from the current 6,000 litres to three million litres a day.
Ongwae also noted that the capacity in Kisii is 6.5 million litres per day but only half is produced while the demand per day is 20 million litres.
Work on this project has started and will end in December next year.
