Subukia area MCA Njoroge Mwanjo has appealed to the area residents and corporate bodies to assist 25 families whose houses and shops went up in flames at Gwa-Kahiga Trading Centre on Monday night.
MCA Mwanjo who said that Nakuru County government officials visited the area on Tuesday and donated Sh200,000, said that if other well-wishers could also chip in and help then they will help the victims who are now left without knowing from where to begin.
He said that the total loss is estimated at Sh1.4 million since most of the shops had huge stocks.
“The area Chief has been advised to form a committee so that they can open a Bank Account in which well-wishers can deposit money to help start up the businesses again since most of the affected people were small scale traders who largely depended on farming prior to starting up the businesses,’’ said Mwanjo.
Mwanjo further called on Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to expedite purchase of fire engines to be stationed in every sub-county Headquarters to help during such incidents.
The Monday night fire is said to have started from a hotel before spreading fast to other shops.
No one was injured during the incident.
