Their accusation was to Gusii Water and Sanitation Cooperation (GWASCO) whom they said are sleeping on the job since the matter has been reported severally but nothing has been done.

According to them the burst sewer tunnel broke three months ago without the county government environmental department taking any legal action.

Kepha King’oina community clinical officer who also spoke as a resident accused GWASCO for falling to respond as the situation worsens.

“There are some officers who are asleep in their jobs we need to wake them up or else they should pack and go home, we have been complaining for more than three months and nobody has come up to solve this matter,” said King’oina.

In addition, he said that most of the resident use water from the river which has been contaminated with waste from the sewage .

“Most of the residents are using water from this river which has been affected by the waste, for instance, business people selling vegetables and fruit at Daraja Mbili market are using this water hence there are high chances of a disease outbreak," said King'oina.
