Gusii water company's main water pipes that runs through the village are always leaking due to poor maintenance leading to massive erosion and road destruction.

"These pipes have been laid here for years and are poorly maintained. They are always leaking yet we have perennial water shortage here," said Felix Kibet, a residents in the area on Saturday.

The water pipes have been laid shallowly exposing them to external damages from human and motor vehicles leading to corrosion and bursting.

Illegal water connections in the area by residents have also been a factor leading to these massive leakages as they fix their own pipes temporary.

Speaking on phone on Friday, GWASCO board chairman Benjamin Onkoba said that the company has started renovating the old pipes and curbing the illegal connections.

The company has been on the limelight due to water shortages and leakage of raw sewages into the rivers.

Kisii has been hit by water shortage due to the harsh weather conditions leading to water rationing, favouring water vendors who have made huge profits due to the high prices of water.
