The Hagarbul borehole in Dadaab sub-county is one of the major projects that the Garissa county government has undertaken to improve the vital water sector in the county.
It is a project that has positively transformed the lives of hundreds of local residents in the vast county.
Hagarbul water project, situated about 25km from the Dadaab town provides a watering point to about 3,000 cows, 12,000 goats and 1,800 donkeys accessing the strategic water reserve each day.
Before the construction of the water project, people used to move about with their herd for about 12 miles looking for available water sources.
Migration during dry periods exposed animals to contagious diseases as they converge on the communal grazing lands and watering points.
Also, pasture and water scarcity is a key driving factor behind the perennial conflicts between pastoral communities as livestock and people traverse the county creating unnecessary collisions.
Hagarbul residents now have a sigh of relief as they can settle down on productive projects.
