In an interview with the People Daily, Haji condoled with the families of the slain policemen who died during the attack.

He asked the government to beef up security in Mandera and the neighbouring counties.

The former Defense Minister said that Kenya will not be intimidated by terrorism acts.

He asked security agencies to pursue suspected terrorists who orchestrated the attack.

“Security agencies must move in with full force and pursue planners and orchestrators of the Mandera and Garissa attacks,”he said as quoted by the People Daily.

The Garissa senator also urged the government to increase surveillance in the Northern region as Muslims prepare for r the holy month of Ramadhan.

The Wednesday attack on Roba’s convoy led to deaths of five police officers among them the governor’s body guard.

The vehicle the officers were traveling in  blew off at Fino Area after it allegedly run over an Improvised Electronic Device (IED).

The governor was traveling to Lafey from Arabia when the attack happened, according to North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh.

Saleh says that an operation to pursue the orchestrates of the attack has been launched.

This is not the first time Governor Roba’s convoy is being attacked.

In March 2015, the governor’s convoy was attacked by suspected Al-Shabaab militants along the Arabia- Omar road in Madera with several people sustaining injuries.

The governor escaped unhurt.

Security experts are now raising questions on whether someone could be behind the attacks that seems to be targeting the Mandera governor.

Security in the North region especially Mandera and Garissa has been worsening in the past weeks.

The government has however assured locals that security will be heightened in the region and other parts of the country.

On Monday, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet urged Kenyans in the North region and other parts of the country to be vigilant and work with the police as they keep law and order.
