Speaking in Garissa Town after addressing retired military officers from the county, the ex-military man reiterated that will be in the ballot, contrary to media reports that the contest was a two-horse thing.“As an independent candidate, I commenced my political campaigns in November 2016 with a very clear intention of transforming the fortunes of our county for the better if granted the opportunity to serve. I have a concise manifesto and agendas that will widely change our county. I am not a project and I will never be one,” He said.

Haji who is now aged 58, hails from the Samawathal clan has taken issue with a section of Garissa residents, who in his view, have been spreading rumors that he was a project sponsored by one of the aspirants to divide the county's votes.

Haji therefore urges the residents never to be influenced by the county's tribal politics which are seemingly gaining popularity.

He added that one’s choice of party or malicious show of wealth during the electioneering was just a scheme by corrupt leaders to sell themselves as 'hardworking'.
